PEDESTRIAN PASSAGES IN THE LEONARDO CAMPUS USED AS PARKING AREAS FOR MOTORCYCLES

Porticoes (i.e., covered passages supported by columns) in the campus are aesthetically pleasant structures and also functional, serviceable and civil facilities for pedestrians. The general problem I would like to point out is that these structures are rather neglected and that they could be repaired or restored. The portico connecting Building 5 and Building 9 in the Leonardo campus is at present (and has always been, actually) a parking area for motorcycles; it always looks crowded with one or two rows of big motorcycles; there are in fact people who have made this portico their parking facility, especially as it is a covered space protecting their vehicles from rain. So, some people’s convenience results into uncivil subtraction of space for people who are using the same space properly: people moving between the two buildings and students coming out of classrooms and having a break between lesson hours. Moreover, just beside the portico there is a large area where hundreds of motorcycles could well be parked …
